My daughter was so tickled by the concept of a physical book she could write in. This was a great find and we had a ton of fun filling out the pages together.

My Name Acrostic Poem

Great for hesitant writers. Acrostic poems are fun and easy. Have your students write the letters of their name down the left side of the page, then brainstorm words that describe them for each letter of the name. Then have them write their favorite words. They can even take turns reading their poem out loud.

Magnetic Letter Sorting

By: Fun-A-Day

I love ELA activities where my daughter can actually move around. She loved these magnetic letter sorting mats. They encourage students to look at letter patterns such as curves, holes, horizontal lines, vertical lines, and diagonal lines.

Supplies needed: large magnetic white board or small boards, magnetic letters (all three of these supplies I use weekly if not daily)

Reading Lessons

I don’t know about you, but I have never taught someone to read before, so I was very unsure where to start. After going through the first 20 lessons it was easy to see why so many homeschool moms rave about this book. The lessons are short (15-20min), easy to grasp and sequential. The entire lesson is scripted and color coded so it’s fool proof, just read the words in pink. It also is designed for kids that don’t know their alphabet or letter sounds yet, so you can start right away. Their claim is that after completing all 100 lessons your child will be able to read at a 2nd grade level!

Flower Name Craft

By: A Dab of Glue Will Do

My girls enjoyed this fun, FREE, no-prep craft that can be easily adjusted based on skill level. My 5 year old wrote her own name and cut and glued it by herself. My almost two year old enjoyed playing with the glue stick and kept most of it on the paper.

Prodigies Music - Best Music Curriculum Ever!

When we started on this homeschool journey one of the subjects I felt least comfortable teaching was music. I am not proficient in any instruments and I’m pretty tone deaf. So I was delighted when I discovered Prodigies Music! It’s an incredible curriculum for teaching music. They focus on desk bells for younger kids, but also teach Ukulele, Recorder and Piano. Their subscription includes everything you can think of 450+ videos, worksheets, free bell mats, sheet music all color coded so it’s super easy to learn. If you don’t have an instrument they have a bunch of rhythm focused content that doesn’t require an instrument.

They have a free trial and after that it’s $12.99 a month. Great deal!

Sensory Bins

Rainbow Alphabet Pasta Sensory Bin

This DIY Rainbow Alphabet Pasta was so easy to make and had so many uses! Identify letters in the bin, encourage kids to spell their name or say words and have them pick the letter that makes the beginning sound.

I am obsessed with sensory bins, they keep my little one busy so I can teach my older daughter. Great for developing fine motor skills like pouring and scooping! This bin is inspired by Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and Chicka Chicka 123. I used the vinegar method instead of rubbing alcohol and it turned out great. See the recipe here.

Filler: Kids Cut ABC 123 Pasta, Jasmine Rice

Supplies I used: Wooden Scoops, Wooden Tongs, Alphabet Puzzle Pieces, Plastic Trees, recycled Mochi Ice Cream Tray, Nesting Cups

Physical Education

Alphabet Relay Race

Race to Z! Setup a magnetic white board with letter magnets on one side of the room and a bucket on the other. Take turns running to the board and getting the next letter in the alphabet. For added instruction, make sure to say the letter sound as you run to the board! P.E. + Phonics is a winner!

Supplies needed: large magnetic white board and magnetic letters.
