Easter Write Your Adventure Book

Students will help Hop the bunny find her special egg as they write "Hop - An Easter Story". Choose from different positional words as you help Hop look for her egg. Be a part of the story as you choose what neat things she discovers along the way. Or be creative and use the options as inspiration and create your own one-of-a-kind Easter story.

English Language Arts - Compound Words

IMG_4341.jpg

Egg Compound Word Builder

Build your own compound words (real or make up some fun ones!) with standard plastic Easter eggs. I found this awesome egg-shaped container that makes it a mini portable literacy center. So fun!

To get this ready for play, separate the tops and bottoms of the eggs and lay them out so they are easy to read at a glance. Then place an Easter basket in the center for the completed eggs.

Here are the words I used, some have multiple combinations and some only have one match.

Tops: snow, milk, blue, star, hand, dragon, mid, good, foot, bus, cross, butter, jelly, rain, straw, gold, water, mail, and fire.

Bottoms: fly, melon, man, fish, berry, storm, boy, night, bow, fox, flake, light, walk, shake, ball jacket, ball, bean, truck.

Supplies: Easter eggs in egg-container, sharpie, Easter basket

All About My Peep Writing Prompt

By: Sunny Days With Miss K

Adopt-a-Peep for a day! My girls loved adopting a marshmallow bunny peep. They named it, and wrote about it. They even got to carry it around (in a plastic bag) for the day.

Reading Lessons

There are only two resources I like to make sure I include on each week’s lesson plan, Prodigies Music (below) and Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This book has thousands of 5 star reviews on Amazon for a reason. It’s an effective, no-prep way to teach reading. We are 70 or so lessons in the results have been amazing, my daughter can pretty much read anything. Still working on trying not to skip words and sounding out instead of guessing, but it’s been very effective.

The lessons are short (15-20min), easy to grasp and sequential. The entire lesson is scripted and color coded so it’s fool proof, just read the words in pink. It also is designed for kids that don’t know their alphabet or letter sounds yet, so you can start right away. My two year old was able to complete lesson 1 (excluding the sound writing) after repeating it about 10 times. We are now on lesson two. Their claim is that after completing all 100 lessons your child will be able to read at a 2nd grade level!

Math - Measurement

Easter Measurement

By: United Teaching

Introduce your students to the concept of measurement with this Easter themed activity. Use the cubes next to the objects to measure the length and width of the Easter objects. Record each measurement on the recording sheet provided. Then color the tallest and widest objects.

We used a ruler and also measured each object in centimeters (whole centimeters only, rounding up) as an intro to a standard unit of measure.

Easter Egg Math Facts

Perfect for a math center! Practicing addition and subtraction math facts has never been so cute. My girls adored these cute little bunny erasers and loved counting out the answers and filling each egg.

To set-up the eggs, I wrote the answer on the bottom of the egg (only one answer per egg). Then I wrote several equations with the same answer on the top of each egg. I also made sure that color of the tops and bottoms matched to make it a little easier to find the correct number.

Supplies: Easter eggs in egg-container, sharpie, Easter basket, mini erasers

Prodigies Music

Do…Re…Mi…

We love Prodigies! Prodigies Music is simply an incredible curriculum for teaching music. Ages 2-5 is the critical time to develop a life-long sense of pitch. Their curriculum is designed to develop a sense of pitch with easy to use desk bells that don’t require any tuning. They also teach piano, recorder and ukulele. Their subscription includes everything you can think of 450+ videos, worksheets, free bell mats, sheet music all color coded so it’s super easy to learn. If you don’t have an instrument they have a bunch of rhythm focused content that doesn’t require an instrument. They even have a free bell app that I use with my toddler when my oldest is practicing.

They have a free trial and discounts for annual memberships! Great deal! You can even check out some of their videos for free on YouTube.

Science - Eggs

IMG_4536.jpg

Egg Drop

We were excited to try this classic science experiment. First, we watched a couple of videos to see what other people have done:

- Egg Drop Project Ideas by Ryan’s World

- 1st Place Egg Drop Project Ideas by Mark Roper

Then, I challenged my daughter to build her own egg drop contraption using different materials than the ones she saw in the video.

Here are the results:

1. Foil Bubble Wrap Box: Broken Egg 😒

2. Diaper in a Bottle: Success! πŸ˜ƒ

3. Paper Towel Roll + Shredded Paper: Success! πŸ˜ƒ

All About Israel Mini Book

By: 123 Homeschool 4 Me

To provide context for the events of Holy Week and Easter we are learning All About Israel. We love 123 Homeschool 4 Me for their amazing free social studies lessons.

Make your very own mini book as you learn about the country of Israel, their flag, symbols, food and more! We chose the simple version which features traceable keywords on each page, but they have a text only book for older kids too!

Sensory Play

IMG_4454.jpg

Make an Easter Egg

I have always wanted to make those cool designs out of dyed rice, but I don’t have the patience. However, with this oversized cookie cutter it was so easy. I just cut out a cardboard piece to fit into the bottom of the cookie cutter so the rice would stay better and used a small funnel for those small spots.

My daughter’s first question β€œCan I dump it out?” Of course, she wanted to make her own design. My two daughters worked collaboratively on their design and then made Easter β€œcakes” out of the rice. This had them completely entertained for at least an hour.

Filler: rice and food coloring, here is the recipe I used.

Supplies: egg cookie cutter, cardboard, mini erasers, wooden scoops, glitter eggs, rabbit figurines

Easter Garden Sensory Play

I love easy-prep low-mess sensory play. Just open a bag of easter grass, add some Easter eggs, plastic flowers, a basket, carrots, shovel, whatever Eastery things you have and voila…an Easter Garden.

We love this buildable flower kit and play with it year-round. But it was a perfect addition to our Easter garden.

Filler: Easter grass

Supplies: flower building kit, glitter eggs, toy carrot, kids gardening tools, mossy rocks, Easter sign
