Dot The Rhyme

By: This Reading Mama

Dab-A-Dot Markers make any activity so much more fun! These pages are always a hit with my girls. My five year-old had so much fun dotting the matching rhyme, she used rainbow colors to make it extra pretty. And meanwhile my two year-old made lots of dots, most of which were on the paper.

Reading Lessons

There are only two resources I like to make sure I include on each weekโ€™s lesson plan, Prodigies Music (below) and Teach Your Child To Read in 100 Easy Lessons. This book has thousands of 5 star reviews on Amazon for a reason. Itโ€™s an effective, no-prep way to teach reading. We are 70 or so lessons in the results have been amazing, my daughter can pretty much read anything. Still working on trying not to skip words and sounding out instead of guessing, but itโ€™s been very effective.

The lessons are short (15-20min), easy to grasp and sequential. The entire lesson is scripted and color coded so itโ€™s fool proof, just read the words in pink. It also is designed for kids that donโ€™t know their alphabet or letter sounds yet, so you can start right away. Their claim is that after completing all 100 lessons your child will be able to read at a 2nd grade level!

Math - Telling Time

What Time Is It?

Explore the concept of time with this no-prep unit. Build a solid foundation for understanding the abstract concept of time with lots of practice.

Start by explaining the different formats of time: digital, analog and written. Then practice filling in a clock, match different time formats, draw in the hour hand and more.

This unit focuses on whole hours and starts with sequential work to help reinforce the concept through repetition.

Units of Time Poster

I hope you enjoy these two great resources for helping to teach how to tell time. Include the poster in your morning work binder, circle time lesson or post it up in your classroom for easy reference.

Laminate the clock mat or use a sheet protector to use with PlayDoh or dry erase markers. Great for practicing telling time on both analog and digital clocks.

Community Worker Hats

By: Totschooling

This is the perfect way to start off Community Worker week!. My girls had so much fun dressing up as different community workers with these amazing free hat printables by Totschooling.

There are 10 different hats: Firefighter, Police Officer, Mail Carrier, Doctor, Nurse, Construction Worker. Pilot, Farmer, Detective and Chef. The band for each hat features the tools that each worker would use to do their job.

We kept the hats up throughout the week so they could dress up anytime they wanted. They even set-up little scenes where they could act out each job, loved this!

Prodigies Music

Doโ€ฆReโ€ฆMiโ€ฆ

We love Prodigies! Prodigies Music is simply an incredible curriculum for teaching music. Ages 2-5 is the critical time to develop a life-long sense of pitch. Their curriculum is designed to develop a sense of pitch with easy to use desk bells that donโ€™t require any tuning. They also teach piano, recorder and ukulele. Their subscription includes everything you can think of 450+ videos, worksheets, free bell mats, sheet music all color coded so itโ€™s super easy to learn. If you donโ€™t have an instrument they have a bunch of rhythm focused content that doesnโ€™t require an instrument. They even have a free bell app that I use with my toddler when my oldest is practicing.

They have a free trial and discounts for annual memberships! Great deal! You can even check out some of their videos for free on YouTube.

Forces Make Things Move - Storytime Play

I love storytime play! Whenever I can, I pair a great book with an appropriate toy. This week we played with our community helper vehicles while we learned about pushes and pulls.

Learning about Forces and Stability are one of the main science standards for Kindergarten so we try to integrate it into as many lessons as we can.

Supplies: Forces Make Things Move Book, Melissa and Doug Town Vehicles

Who Am I? Community Helper Charades Relay

Role play + a relay race makes this activity a blast. Take turns running to pick a card. Then act out the community helper on the card. Charades rules apply! Once the correct job is guessed, itโ€™s the next personโ€™s turn to run and get a card. Keep playing until the cards run out (16 cards total). The person or team with the most cards wins!

These cards could also be used as vocabulary cards in a literacy center or just print two copies to create a memory matching game!
