ABCs of the Web Book
You'd think it would be hard to write a children's book around obscure web technologies (and you'd be right!) but Code Babies did an amazing job on this fun play on a standard ABC book. They break down such esoteric topics as functions, anchor tags, domains and even... _Node.js_ into beautifully illustrated pages with clever rhymes and imagery.
"ABCs of the Web is a child's first introduction to the language of the web using the ABCs, beautiful imagery, and fun rhymes. Written by a Web Designer and a Pediatrician, this book introduces children under 5 to the vocabulary of programming in a developmentally appropriate way."
One of the things I love about this book as that it is written in a developmentally appropriate way so that the words used, although meaningful in explaining the subject matter, are actually simple enough to be understood by kids. That's hard to do, and it's done well here.
As a software engineer by training, I found this book to be a fun way to share a tiny bit of what I do with my little one. She loves the bright colors and cute characters and I feel like it's a first step at fostering a curiosity about coding that we can build on in the future.
A couple of dear friends gifted us this book and I'm glad they did!
